"It's the big whirl of fashion!"

Antthony Mark Hankins
That's a quote from Eunice Johnson, founder of Ebony magazine.  In the wake of the New York, Paris and Milan fashion weeks, I was flipping through a few auction catalogs this weekend that I had shoved aside for later.  I saw that Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will be auctioning vintage pieces from the Ebony Fashion Fair Collection on October 22nd.   So many wonderful pieces!  Here are just a few of my favorites.

Bill Blass
Carolina Herrera

"Are you ready for what you're about to see?"
-Eunice Johnson

Christian Dior
Geoffrey Beene
"Fashion, like vintage wine, has its good years."
-Eunice Johnson
Issey Miyake
Missoni
"If you don't feel good in it, it's not for you."
-Eunice Johnson
Oscar de la Renta
Vivienne Westwood
The Ebony Fashion Fair goes way back to 1958.  Flipping through the auction catalog you really get a sense of the power of fashion through the years!  Check it out yourself  . . . and maybe throw in your bid!

The Ice Cream Underground

Image here.

I think I'm in Heaven.  Okay, check it out.  Sweet Ape.  What is it?  Well, according to their Facebook page:

Sweet Ape /swēt āp/ noun 1. An underground ice cream parlour 2. A loosely associated group of artists, writers, amateur bakers, aspiring economists, and the odd florist. 3. An ongoing project that seeks to create a single working definition of food justice while remedying the gap between food advocates and the general public. 4. An education.

I've been to underground foodie events before, but never an underground ice cream parlour.  This is right up my alley!  These  super-secret, invite-only parlour events take place when the moon is out, at an undisclosed location (well, undisclosed to all but the invitees, of course), and for a minimal entry fee you get to enjoy music, art, drinks and, of course, ice cream!!!   Rumor has it that the flavors have been known to include Thai tea, rose cava granita, clotted cream with Turkish granola, and bourbon cornflake (organic and vegan selections are usually part of the menu).

Sorry Kichaas, their next Gilded Lily event (burlesque and ice cream -- sounds naughty all around, and definitely not for plain vanilla lovers) on October 15 is completely full.  But you can still sign up for email notices of future events.  I'm bummed I didn't get in to this one but I'm still drooling and licking my chops for next time!!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Sweet Ape ice cream!

What Makes Kichaa Smile?

Image here.
Lissa is one of my favorite fashion-forward boutiques.  Here's what I recently saw trending for Fall -- and I like it all!

I absolutely love the accessories collection by Juma.  The unique scarves and limited edition bags created by the brother/sister design team look like they would be great travel companions (remember my exotic beach vacation coming up?!).  Designer Mandy Coon's turtleneck gown (in swooshy, swishy, lovely silk, no less) has a '70's vibe going on (looks like it would pack well, too).  I really love the sleek, minimalist styles from The Only Son.  Nicely understated.  Could go anywhere and dress up or down. While the fabulous red tunic and wide pants by Rodebjer totally pop (but I think the red cuff and colorful belts would be more versatile and take up less space in the suitcase -- can you tell I need a vacation)!

What do you think Kichaas?  Are you smiling too?

A is for Apple . . .

Happy Monday!  I hope your weekend was wonderful!  How did you spend it?  I built a fire for the first time this season.  I wore shorts for the last time this season.  I started pulling together my Halloween costume (Major Beelzebub party coming soon--be bad, do good -- more on that later!).  I did a little of this and a little of that, and started getting ready for my upcoming exotic beach vacation (Yes, that will be coming soon, too!!).  I also spent some time in the apple orchard picking some delicious apples and gorgeous, warty pumpkins.  The weather was perfect!  And I got to spend some time with my best girlfriend and her best little girl.

So A is Apple and P is for Pumpkin and Pies!  I can tell you for sure that apple pie is going to figure prominently in the week ahead.  Not a bad thing to look forward to, don't you agree Kichaa?

XOXO
